Learning Outcomes

By the end of ACDL 2027, participants will be able to:

  1. analyse recent developments in modern machine learning and AI;
  2. critically evaluate contemporary deep-learning and generative-AI methods;
  3. understand current approaches to foundation models, multimodal learning and AI agents;
  4. assess methodological assumptions, limitations and reproducibility;
  5. identify promising research directions;
  6. discuss emerging AI methods with researchers from academia and industry;
  7. present and critically discuss their own research;
  8. apply selected advanced methods and concepts to research or professional problems.

ECTS Credits Recognition

The course comprises approximately 36–40 hours of lectures, together with guided study and project-based activities. Subject to the recognition requirements of the participant’s institution, successful completion of the course may correspond to 8 ECTS credits. 8 ECTS correspond to the complete academic workload of the course, including scheduled teaching, tutorials, guided study, assigned materials and assessment activities where applicable. ACDL 2027 is structured around a workload corresponding to 8 ECTS credits. Formal recognition of ECTS credits is subject to the academic regulations of the participant’s university, doctoral programme or other competent academic authority. The ACDL certificate specifies the 8-ECTS academic value of the course and the participant’s fulfilment of the applicable ACDL requirements.

We know that the recognition of ECTS credits (8 ECTS in the case of ACDL) varies from country to country. Furthermore, in all these years of activity, we have found that the recognition of the ECTS credits also varies from University to University and in some cases, even from Department to Department (sometimes within the same University there are Faculties/Departments that have particular requests and different constraints to formally accept ECTS credits).

Having made this necessary premise, to allow all ACDL students to be able to recognize ECTS credits, we have adopted a flexible policy for assigning the aforementioned credits.

All participants before, during and after the course will receive teaching material (e.g., articles, presentations, URLs, source code, technical reports, demos, etc.) which they must view/read/study as an integral part of the course’s teaching activity. 1) The hours for  the study of all the teaching material provided together with 2) the attendance of the course lessons allow the students to reach the hours necessary to obtain the 8 ECTS credits.

(I) For students who simply need to attend the course to have ECTS credits recognised, the organizing committee verifies that the student has been present at all the teaching activities of the course, if the student has been present at more than 85% of the teaching activities then the student will receive the Formal Certificate of Attendance in which it will be written that this course is worth exactly 8 ECTS.

(II) In case that participation alone is not sufficient for the recognition of ECTS credits by the University/Faculty/Department, the following procedure will be adopted. For ECTS credit recognition, the student must be present at more than 85% of the teaching activities and at the end of the course (typically two weeks after the end of ACDL) the student must take an online exam or complete a project in 4-6 weeks. Once the exam has been passed or a positive evaluation of the project has been obtained, the student will receive the Formal Certificate of Attendance in which it will be written that this course is worth exactly 8 ECTS.

(III) In case that the two previous points do not satisfy the requests of the University/Faculty/Department the organizing committee and the Directors of the course will try to satisfy, if possible, the requests of the academic bodies to verify the feasibility of the required procedure.

Two-steps procedure for participating in ACDL 2027

To attend ACDL 2027, all participants must

(1/2) register for the course (by February 23, 2027) and

(2/2) book accommodation (by the accommodation form) at the course venue, “Riva del Sole Resort & SPA” (by April 23, 2027); all participants must stay at the “Riva del Sole Resort & SPA” ( booking.events@rivadelsole.it ). Once accommodation has been booked at “Riva del Sole Resort & SPA“, the participant must send this information to the ACDL organizing committee (acdl@icas.cc).
